The ISO 9001:2015 standard has been updated to incorporate climate change.
This 2024 amendment marks the first change to the ISO 9001 standard since its 2015 publication.
Key amendments
Clause 4.1: You must now evaluate the relevance of climate change in your operations under “Understanding the Organisation and its Context.”
The following text has been added to the end of clause 4.1: “The organisation shall determine whether climate change is a relevant issue.”
Clause 4.2: A note has been added to clause 4.2, stating that while no additional requirements have been introduced, “relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change.”
Specifically, the note added is: “Relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change.”
Important notes
- No new certification is required due to this amendment.
- This update also affects 30 other management system standards, including ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 45001.
- This amendment to ISO 9001:2015 should not be confused with the upcoming revision expected in 2026.
