Glasgow-based energy efficiency firm Union Technical has secured re-accreditation for three global ISO standards, setting the stage for continued growth.
It underscores the firm’s commitment to excellence in quality management (ISO 9001), environmental stewardship (ISO 14001), and occupational health and safety compliance (ISO 45001).
Union Technical achieved accreditation over three years ago with the support of Absolute Quality Consultancy & Training. They have since guided Union Technical through the rigorous re-certification process and also created a bespoke management system to integrate the standards.
This accomplishment has not only strengthened Union Technician’s position in the energy efficiency sector but also helped secure more work in Scotland and throughout the UK. It has also led to the creation of a new position specifically to oversee and maintain the standards.
Kirsty Brown, Head of Business Development at Union Technical, said: “As our team comprises over 100 dedicated individuals, spanning both office-based teams and field-based engineers and installers, the need for streamlined operating procedures is paramount.
“The management system is tailored to our specific needs around quality, our environmental impact, and health and safety compliance ensuring the seamless execution of our projects upholding the highest standards in every aspect of our operations. It has become so integral that we have created a new job to maintain and coordinate the system.”
Kirsty worked closely with Helen Short, founder and managing director at Absolute Quality. to establish a management system that seamlessly integrates the three accreditations, shaping company policies and procedures.
Kirsty continued: “Helen’s knowledge is vast, and she understands that the system needed to be tailored to our unique needs. She provided us with an outstanding bespoke service that significantly enhances our efficiency and performance.
“Helen also ensured every staff member was engaged and empowered throughout the entire journey. She delivered training and toolbox talks for managers who then cascaded this knowledge to their teams.”
The system incorporates a live database, ensuring staff can track the essential training and accreditations they need for energy efficiency installations and solutions.
Helen said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Kirsty and the team at Union Technical to implement this comprehensive management system. Excitingly, it has opened new opportunities and enhanced their reputation as a leading provider in the industry, while also creating a new job role within the company. This highlights the undeniable value of robust management systems and ISO standards in driving business success.”
Looking ahead, Union Technical will put in place ISO 27001 to manage information security. Kirsty concluded: “As Union Technical continues to expand, data safety is increasingly important. We will continue to work with Helen and the team at Absolute Quality to achieve and embed this accreditation into our operations.
“These certifications serve as a testament to our unwavering commitment to high standards, a proactive approach to exceeding industry best practices, and operational excellence.”
